OVERVIEW

Besoke Horology is a startup company helping consumers build unique timepieces using genuine Rolex parts and accessories. A jewelry store owner noticed that when they sent out watches to be repaired, the customers most often did not want to keep the parts that often accompanied the repair. Over time these parts began to accumulate, and the owners found a market for using these spare parts for customers wanting to customize their Rolex watches. The concept for the website was developed in the spring of 2019 and was abandoned in the early spring of 2020 due to supply chain issues with the Covid-19 pandemic.

THE CHALLENGE

Customizing a watch with alternate parts is very much in demand in ecommerce these days. Customers wanted to build a unique watch and see the price in real time to ensure they get the look they want and stay within a targeted budget. The company was very much a startup, and the interactive site prototypes were to be used for private investment funding and customer buzz.

THE SOLUTION

I interviewed several customers and looked at various cross-industry best practices. Customers related to the process and compared it to customizing a new car build complete with options and packages. A summary page was critical to ensure they could share the excitement with family and friends.
